PENINSULA MASONIC LODGE PRESENTS SCHOLARSHIPS
On the evening of Tuesday, April 19, 2011, the members of Peninsula Masonic Lodge (San Carlos) presented The Peninsula Masonic Lodge/Otis M. Carrington Memorial Scholarship to three deserving high school seniors. This scholarship was created in honor of Otis M. Carrington who was a member of Lodge and dedicated educator at Sequoia High School. This presentation was also an acknowledgement of April being Public Schools Month, which was so proclaimed by William J. Bray III, Grand Master of the Grand Lodge of California Free and Accepted Masons. Freemasons in California have been dedicated to supporting public schools throughout their 160-year history, including the creation of the first Public Schools Week in 1920. The recipients of the $1,000 scholarships were: Rene Parra - Carlmont High School; Matteo Porcedda - Sequoia High School; and Natasha Kafai - Woodside High School. These scholarships were presented by John E. Follett, chairman, and David Patterson and Matin Irigoyan, of the Peninsula Lodge scholarship committee.
